THE INS AND OUTS OF PEDIGREE ANALYSIS -  GENETIC DIVERSITY AND GENETIC DISEASE

We are pleased to present a Health & Breeding Seminar with Dr Jerold Bell DVM, Clinical Professor of Genetics, Tufts University on WED, May 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM.  Dr Bell’s presentation is titled: The Ins and Outs of Pedigree Analysis-Genetic Diversity and Genetic Disease. This is a must attend event for all mastiff breeders or aspiring breeders and for  those concerned about health risks in breeding.  This educational seminar will help us improve the results of our breeding programs by gaining the knowledge of breeding strategies aimed at minimizing undesirable traits while maximizing those that we desire.

Dr. Bell is highly respected by the research community and he’s a dynamic speaker.  In addition to  being a Genetics Professor at Tufts University, he is also a Veterinary Genetics Counselor, a practicing Veterinarian and breeder of Gordon Setters.

His seminar will cover genetic disorders affecting Mastiffs with updates from pertinent researchers such as Dr. Paula Henthorn of the University of Pennsylvania regarding Cystinuria in Mastiffs. The talk will also cover the different types of genetic tests, their availability, and their proper use as well as breeding recommendations to manage different types of genetic disorders.

The seminar is three hours in length and will be held on

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Fontana Village Lodge Meeting Room.  An optional lunch will be served during the seminar and a question and answer period will follow. No outside food or beverages may be brought into the meeting room, except for the lunch available by pre-order.
